Foreigners purchase real estate in the Republic of Turkey for different purposes. Some buyers dream of a cozy apartment overlooking the Mediterranean Sea, others invest their savings to receive passive income from rental or resale, and still others count on ikamet in Turkey or obtaining a residence permit.
Getting a Turkish residence permit is not difficult. When choosing an object, you will need to take into account several important requirements, as well as use the specially developed e-ikamet digital database to register the application. The procedure takes place in several stages and the rendezvous causes the greatest excitement among foreigners.

Rendezvous in Turkey
Rendezvous in Turkey – This is the final stage of the procedure for obtaining a residence permit (ikamet), which is an interview with a migration official.
Ikamet – this is a special document that confirms the right of long-term residence in Turkey to persons who are not citizens of this state. The document looks like a plastic card with the personal data of its owner.
Having an ikamet card in hand, foreigners do not have to reside in Turkey permanently. The duration of the residence permit ranges from six months to two years, and during this period you can cross the Turkish border at any time, without regard to the duration of the visa-free regime and any other factors.
The registration of a residence permit is controlled by the official body – Migration Service of the Republic of Turkey (İl Göç idaresi Müdürlüğü). An application for registration of ikamet is submitted online on the department’s website. After entering personal data and attaching documents to the application, the system offers the foreign citizen several options for the date and time of the meeting with the migration service authorities at the applicant’s place of residence.
Registration for rendezvous
Before going for an interview, a foreign citizen needs to register.
Online registration for the rendezvous began in 2015. To register in the centralized rendezvous system, you will need to go to the official website of the General Directorate of Migration of the Republic of Turkey (https://e-ikamet.goc.gov.tr/)
Registration of foreigners wishing to issue an ikamet takes place in several stages:
- On the portal, select the language and type of application. There are three options to choose from: initial application, extension, change from one type of residence permit to another.
- At the second stage, the applicant is asked to enter in special fields his full name, date of birth, gender, nationality, identification code, passport number and series, as well as contact information (phone number, e-mail).
- Next, the system asks you to fill out your passport information, attach a biometric photo, indicate the method of communication at home and in the Republic of Turkey, place of work, information about your education and income. All red fields in the form are required to be filled out.
- Insurance policy information – the next stage of registration for a rendezvous for a residence permit. The system will require you to indicate the insurance company, as well as the insurance policy number.
- Checks in the list indicate data about a short-term application.
- In the next block, indicate the reason for applying for a residence permit and the desired validity period.
- In the form “Information about the person/persons applying for ikamet” indicate your family members (if any) who will also apply for a residence permit with you.
- The final stage of submitting an application for an ikamet rendezvous – selecting a city and meeting time. The interview takes place at the place of residence of the foreign citizen.

Data in the form must be entered in Latin letters only. We recommend filling out the application on your computer so that you can save the application and print it out.
If you made a mistake when entering data into the electronic form, cancel your registration for the interview and indicate the reason. The system will automatically delete the application, after which you can go through the registration process again and select the day and time of the interview.
How is a rendezvous in Turkey going
On the appointed day, the applicant comes to the migration department office (the address is on the first page of the application form). You need to have with you:
- Completed electronically and printed application
- Original and copy of international passport
- Valid health insurance policy
- 4 photos of biometric sample
- Property title (for apartment owners)
- Rental agreement (for residential tenants)
- Receipt for payment of state duty for ikamet
For ikamet for a child, a birth certificate is attached to the list. In addition, documents from the second parent, marriage certificate or divorce certificate will be required. If one of the parents is unable to be at the meeting when transferring children's documents, you will be required to provide notarized permission for the procedure.
To be on the safe side, take with you an account statement from a Turkish bank to confirm your financial reliability, as well as a health certificate.
Language rendezvous – Turkish or English. We recommend that Russian-speaking foreigners enlist the help of a professional translator.
What do they ask at a rendezvous in Turkey? At the meeting, a management employee will clarify a few simple questions. As a rule, the migration department is interested in:
- grounds for applying for a Turkish residence permit;
- do you intend to find employment during your stay;
- will you be able to financially provide for yourself and your closest relatives applying for a residence permit in Turkey with you.
Average interview duration – about 30 minutes. Based on the results of communication and document verification, a foreign citizen receives a special form — certificate of application for a residence permit or İKAMET İZNİ MÜRACAAT BELGESİ, which allows you to legally reside in Turkey until the card is issued. This document must always be with you.
If you do not show up for the rendezvous, the application will be completely deleted from the online system and you will have to go through all the steps again.
After filling out the application and before the rendezvous, the foreigner is prohibited from leaving Turkey. After the meeting, you are allowed to leave for 15 days, having previously notified the migration department.
Ikamet registration time – up to 3 months. The issuance time may increase due to the increased number of people wishing to obtain a Turkish residence permit, as well as the remoteness of the region from the capital.
