Republic of Turkey — a beautiful developed country visited by thousands of foreign tourists every year. The state is famous not only for its picturesque resorts, unique attractions and special flavor, but also for its favorable investment climate, as well as high-quality real estate at relatively affordable prices.
Statistics from the last few years confirm that both the tourist flow and the number of foreigners who have already become happy owners of Turkish apartments are growing. Both of them, while staying in a resort state, are concerned about issues related to the comfort of living. And, in particular, what is the situation with maintaining silence, and how much noise can you make in Turkey? In our new article we will try to understand this topical topic in more detail.

- Law on silence in Turkey

Turkey Silence Law
First, let's decide on the wording.
Noise — These are any sounds that interfere with the living and recreation of neighbors, provoking individual or collective complaints to the authorities.
Based on generally accepted standards, noise when living in an apartment or house is considered to be: screams, conversations in a raised voice, loud music, howling pets, the sounds of a car drifting under the windows, the sounds of household appliances (including faulty ones) operating at night time, constant repairs, installation, finishing work, etc. Of course, this list can be supplemented endlessly with a wide variety of everyday and work situations.
There are no official regulatory time limits or so-called silence laws in Turkey. But in practice, in Turkish society it is customary to observe silence on weekdays — from 17:30 to 8:00, on weekends — until 11:00 am.
In addition, back in 2020, during the coronavirus pandemic, when most people were forced to stay and work at home, the Turkish government increased the amount of fines for so-called “noise pollution”:
- For residents of Turkish houses and apartments, the amount was about 1,500 TL.
- For noisy industries and workshops that disturb the comfortable living of people in nearby houses, the fine was about 15,000 TL.
It should be noted that the Condominium Law is in force in the Republic of Turkey. Article 18 of this law obliges Turkish homeowners to not make noise and to live in such a way as not to cause inconvenience to their neighbors. If any of the neighbors violates the legal rules, then residents have the right to complain to the manager of the residential complex. If there is no response from the noisy owner, residents can contact the police. We recommend that you notify your neighbor about this in advance by giving him a notarized notification.
As a rule, police officers impose an administrative fine on loud neighbors. If the law of silence in Turkey continues to be violated by the tenant even after paying the fines, then you can contact the hotline of the Ministry of Environment and Urban Planning at telephone number 181 and submit a statement. The most difficult situations are dealt with by the world court.

Observe silence in Turkey
Summer in Turkish resorts — hot season, during which the tourist flow increases several times and foreigners come to the country in search of quality recreation and vivid impressions. The work of not only the tourism, but also the entertainment, trade and service sectors is intensifying.
And only for construction companies is there a lull in the summer. Developers observe a silence regime in Turkey, when the law allows only internal work in tourist regions, the noise from which does not exceed established standards. On the one hand, in the resort republic the summer is hot and it is quite difficult to work in the open air during this period. On the other hand, in a state in which the tourism industry is considered one of the most profitable, and therefore a priority, the authorities try to be as attentive as possible to tourists and not spoil their vacation with dusty and noisy work.

Regulating silence in hotels
If foreign tourists have paid for a holiday in Turkey in one of the hotels, this does not mean at all that during their stay there they have the right to behave as they please. Each Turkish hotel complex has its own unspoken “law of silence,” the most important rule of which is: live in such a way as not to disturb others. These are the minimum requirements of hotel administrations, which any guest can comply with without any problems. For example, do not turn on music or TV at full volume and do not speak in a loud voice in the evening.
As a standard, hotels observe a silence regime from 22:00 to 8:00 am.
Some hotels restrict noisy entertainment events after 00:00, and guests are warned upon check-in about the prohibition of listening to loud music at night.
In addition, as a preventive measure, hotels that disturb the peace of residents in nearby houses face a fine of up to 150,000 TL. In order to avoid such significant expenses, hotel owners reduce the time of entertainment programs and ensure that vacationers comply with the silence regime.

Soundproofing in Turkish apartments
If you have planned to purchase a resort property from a developer and dream of a quiet life on the shores of the Mediterranean Sea, we recommend taking into account not only the cost of the property, its location and other characteristics, but also how they build houses in Turkey. In particular, this concerns compliance with requirements for the level of sound insulation of buildings.
Soundproofing walls in Turkish apartments is done in different ways. As a rule, not all budget housing can boast of good soundproofing characteristics. And in this case, everything depends on the developer: conscientious companies, even with a minimum construction budget, try to create the most comfortable living conditions for people and minimize noise interference.
But more expensive apartments can boast a high noise absorption coefficient, which is ensured by:
- use in brick construction;
- additional sound insulation of walls and floors with screed;
- treatment of walls with sound-absorbing materials;
- installation of high-quality double-glazed windows;
- filling voids in monolithic floors with expanded polystyrene, mineral wool, expanded clay.
The sound insulation of apartments is influenced by the tightness of interior partitions and the junction of walls and ceilings, as well as the use of porous materials and special mixtures for plaster. In addition, experienced developers use “floating floor” technology, in which all floor layers are loosely adjacent to the walls and ceilings.
Ask the developer or seller questions about sound insulation in Turkey at the stage of choosing an apartment. In addition, you can evaluate the level of noise insulation using special devices and even applications on your mobile phone.
And the most important advice: contact a professional real estate agency, Point Property, for help. Our experienced specialists will help you choose an apartment that will fully meet your ideas about comfortable and relaxing living in Turkey.
